You know what really annoys me? People who update their posts without describing what they update. Now, of course, doing this once in a while is not a big deal. But to do this constantly, argghhhh.
I am a huge RSS reader. I read something once, I don't want to see it again. But when you update your posts, the RSS reader marks it as new, and shows it to me again. If you do not add a postscript or update, clearly to the post, then please don't update the post. Of course is there is a glaring error, fix it and say so.
My rule of thumb, once I post it, there is a 3 minute rule. No updating posts after three minutes unless I add something significant. And if I do, then mark what was updated.
Just one of my pet peeves. Watch, now everyone I know will be updating their posts, by adding a period or comma, just to mess with me.
Happy Valentines

Yep, that bugs the heck out of me as well. Wordpress users can use a plugin called Smart Update Pinger, which instead of always pinging when saving a post, the plugin only pings when the post has not previously been published. (www.daven.se/usefulstuff/wordpress-plugins.html)

Excellent tip Donna. Now, can we force them all to use it? :-)

I had something similar to your 3-minutes rule. However I recently got around to bring back and improve a preview mode for my blogging tool, so now I don't need the 3 minutes anymore. However, there's one thing I correct without making it explicit: HTML errors, and potentially, changes in the RSS ad (when I have 'em). Both of those seem to cause RSS readers to mark the item as updated, while frustrating users like you...

On another note, pls make your comment system post-moderated, not pre-moderated. It's really slow to have a conversation in pre-moderation modes :)

I plan on it as soon as I update the spam classifications Philipp.
But these comments were posted pretty quickly, don't ya think?
I agree with you above.

Pre-moderation is now off. This should work immediately now, unless something trips a spam filter.
