adium-logo.pngI am a heavy instant messenger users. In fact, most of us in the office prefer to IM rather than walk the few feet to each other and use our mouths to talk. Many of us prefer to just type our message. Why?

  • Less distracting...
  • More convenient
  • Less intrusive
  • More geeky
  • Simply easier for most conversation

It doesn't mean we never get up, but often we opt for IM over in person discussions. Most of the time it is, what is the status with this or that, can you review this, can you email me that, where can I find this, etc.

Plus I use IM to talk with SEOs and SEMs, vendors, clients and friends throughout the day.

In fact, my IM list is so big that I often have 80 plus active buddies in the list. That is why I prefer to use Adium X. Adium is a long time Mac alternative to AOL Instant Messenger's software. I am able to easily customize the interface to blend into my desktop so that it takes up as little space as possible. In addition, it has tabbed IM abilities, lots of nice features including the much appreciated IM chat logs (searchable). The one feature I wish it had was video chat, which I think they are working on. I can live without it for now.
