junk-comments-small.gifThe software I use to power all my blogs is MovableType. They have a pretty good system for blocking junk comments. What are junk comments or comment spam? Well, they people trying to place links to their sites to generate traffic or link popularity to boost their search rank.

So for years, I have left the "junk" comments in the backend and never deleted them.

Last night, I removed 300,000 junked comments.

This has tremendously improved the speed of the Movable Type backend.

The thing is, the junk comments fills up quickly. I get hundreds of blocked comments per hour. It is constantly filling up, so from now on, I will continue to delete the junked comments.
