Remember, I broke my camera for the second time? I sent it back into Canon, assuming they would fix it for free again. Boy was I wrong...
They said they can fix it for me for $137.64.
Now, I have a friend who fixes this type of stuff for a living and he told me it cost $30 for the piece. So I may just have him fix it, if I can persuade him. Or maybe it is a good excuse to get the new SD 1000, which is a lot lighter and has a bigger LCD screen....
What ticks me off most is that they want you to pay $175.00 for a refurbished SD 500! Why would I do that, when I can get the SD 1000 for $14 more? Why!
So, I declined the repair. I will decide to to either fix this camera or get the new SD 1000. And then from now on, I will try not to break it.

I had a similar thing happen to me with Kodak. Apparently some of their models have an issue whereby if the battery dies as the lens is retracting, the lens stops, and (once new batteries are in place) an error message is displayed from that point forward. No amount of coaxing can get it to go back.
I contacted Kodak about repairs, and the price quoted was ~$125, so I went and bought a better, newer camera for ~$20 more...

Oh, before someone jumps on me about the price.
I know, $35 for hardware and $100 for labor isn't bad.
I am just ranting...
