The Fastest Fiber is Comparable with the Fastest Cable & DSL
I just read the June 26th edition of PC World and saw a column named Real World Testing: The Best ISPs in America.
Basically, they rated the top ISPs by provider, type and geo-location.
I grabbed the chart and just plotted the best speeds from Fiber, Cable and DSL providers.
As you can see Verizon FiOS (which I am dying to get), is the fastest, averaging 307 Kbps. then comes Optimum cable (which I use) at 283.2 Kbps and then Speakeasy DSL at 277.7 Kbps.
What is interesting is that the second fastest Fiber Optic is 265.8 Kbps, which is slowest then the fastest cable and fastest DSL.
Go figure. In any event, I still want to trash my T1 line in favor of Verizon FiOs. But I am still waiting for availability. I would still keep Optimum cable, to go with FiOS in my office, but I hate the T1 speed.
