The WashingtonPost.com Biagra Spam Is Enough!

wpLogo_250x42.gifIt is enough already!

My blog is being hit by tons of comment spam pointing at the WashingtonPost.com. These links go to pages like these.

Then there are Google ads on this page, yes Google is profiting from this. In addition, there is a text ad pointing to http://buygenericviagr.forumlivre.com/.

Here is a screen capture:

WashingtonPost Spam

The good news is that it looks like Google has not yet indexed this page as of yet.

Yes, they are targeting "biagra," because the "b" and the "v" keys are right next to each other.

But the comment spam is just so annoying!

WashingtonPost, please stop these pages from being generated!

Helping the Masses - Turning Down Individuals?

MassesI just got off a phone call with this lady.

She called me while I was out and asked me to call her back in regards to some research she was doing. I thought I would help the lady out with her research and give her a call back.

I quickly learned that this research was to help this individual help her individual client. So in reality, she had a client that had questions. She didn't know the answers to those questions. She called me and others to get the answers. She then probably billed her client for the time she spent getting those answers.

I was nice, I think. I spent almost 20 minutes on the phone with her, giving her answers. I went through some history, some new examples, etc... Showing her how these things work. She then got more specific and I tried my best to help.

After I was done, she then asked if I knew anyone else who can help her. I said I do. But I felt bad giving out the names of these people because it would not help the masses. I explained... Typically a reporter or researcher will call me or others... They would ask us dozens of questions. We answer to the best of our ability. They write it up and publish the knowledge for everyone to see.

In her case, she is getting all this information and keeping it to herself. I said, if this information would help the masses, then great. But she admitted, it would only be used for her consulting project with this client.

So based on that information, I did not offer any additional people she can ask these questions to. I even suggested she research the wonderful amount of free and educational information available on the web. If she had questions, I told her about discussion forums and how everyone can benefit from the exchange of questions and answers.

Am I wrong for not handing out the names of my peers to this person?

Am I wrong about helping the masses versus just helping an individual profit off her client?

Google Maps Guy Quotes Me at Some Seattle Testing Conference?

Google Maps BugThis weekend, some guy I know came over to me and told me he was at a testing conference.

He explained that a Google Maps person was up on the stage giving a presentation on how they add test case scenarios to find bugs in Google Maps. He then told me that the person giving the presentation mentioned my name for a bug I reported...

I said it was possible, but the first thing that came to my mind was a real bug. Yea, remember when I reported about a serious Google Maps bug? See the image at the top right? It was a bug that got caught between a glass plate and the film during the scanning process. So, a real outer-space bug did not overtake a portion of Germany.

He said, it wasn't that bug, but rather a bug that had driving directions go in circles. So I just looked it up and found the 200+ U-Turn Google Maps bug. That was probably it.

Blog This, Blog That

Cartoon Barry BloggingI blog so much that even my family members and friends want to know if they will be on the blog soon.

If I am with friends or family and we are doing something interesting or even ordinary, they joke. "So will this be on your blog today?"

In fact, this happened a few times in the past week. Once when I was at a "guy's night out" last week, they asked if I would blog about it. I did not, but I guess now I am. It also happened with family this weekend, where one family member asked if I would blog about the meal I ate.

So although I decided not to blog about those two events, I am actually blogging about those two events.

Makes you wonder...

My Ambient Orb Feeds Me Employee Data

My Ambient OrbI have this ambient orb sitting on my desk. It changes colors throughout the day. Right now it is blue and looks like the image at the top right of this post.

Back in the early February, I bought an ambient orb and hooked it into our task tracking system.

We configured it to change colors based on what the employees were doing. I honestly always forget what the colors represent, so I figured I make a quick list of what each color represents, so I have somewhere to reference the material quickly.

Color Pulse Speed Status Update
Light Blue Medium Fast New Task Added
Yellow Very Slow Task Assigned
Green Very Slow Task In Process
Orange Medium Fast Task In Testing
Orange Yellow Medium Fast Task To Be Uploaded
Purple Very Slow Task On Hold
Red Medium Fast To Completed
Pink Very Slow Task Cancelled

So those are the meaning behind the colors that come from my ambient orb.

My Morning Turkey

Very often, when I am driving to work I see this Turkey crossing the street. So I decided to finally stop driving, take out my iPhone and snap a picture.

Turkey Crossing Street

Pretty good quality...

Where exactly do I see this turkey? Right around here... Make sure to click on the blue pointer marker.

What time do I see this turkey crossing the street? Typically between 6:20 and 6:40am (EST).

New RustyBudget Feature: Duplicate Content Detector

As many of you know, we created a *revolutionary* new software product for bloggers and editors named RustyBudget.

Today, Ronnie added a new feature that helps Danny and I stay off each other's toes.

Sometimes Danny will add something to the budget for headlines and then I will add the same story, not seeing that he added it already. Sometimes it happens where I add something and Danny dups me. We are human.

So we added a duplicate content detector. Basically, if you have added a story to the budget in the past and try adding it again with the bookmarklet, it will warn you.

Here is an example of the warning:

Duplicate Content Checker on RustyBudget

I cannot tell you how excited I am about this feature. It not only tells you that you are stepping on someone's toes. It tells you whose toes and also gives you clarity into when it was added in the past.

Note: This only works if the URL matches, we are not matching on story titles. Also, this only works on a budget to budget level, so if I add something to SEL and the same thing to SER, it won't prompt me - which makes sense.

Cell Your Cell Phone for Cash - Treo 700p

cell-for-cash-logo.pngChris Pirillo twittered that he sold his old cell phone on cellforcash.com for $110.

He said he thinks you should, too.

Should I?

I can sell my Treo 700p for $63. Seems kind of low, but I suspect there isn't much hassle involved with that type of sale.

What do you think?

Want to buy my Treo for more?

Verisign Sucks - Verisign Rocks

verisignAbout two point five :) weeks ago I got a notice that I had to renew one of my wild card security certificates with Verisign.

Knowing what a hassle it is, I started the renewal process immediately. Now, two point five weeks later, we are still in the process of renewing.

Why is it such a big deal? Well, I have a feeling we are the only one using Verisign for wild card certificates. It seems like whenever we have to renew, no one knows what to do. I have to speak with several different people, who then talk to several different people, before anything can get done.

I am really close now. Our order has gone through and now we just need to go through the four steps of verification. Three of the four steps are done, now my billing guy needs to update the payment step and then we should be issued a revised CSR (certificate signing request).

We are far from out of the woods. I am afraid, like last year, the from CSR is issued and we will have to go through the process again.

This is exactly why I started a month prior to renew the wild card certificate.

There is one really cool step where you have to prove you are from that organization and that you ordered the certificate. They ask you to click on a web site and then that web site asks you to type in your phone number. Then it calls you and you are given a pin to enter in. You enter the pin in and then they call you back with a new pin to enter. If done correctly, the step is done. I wrote more about it last year at the RustyBrick tech blog.

Anyway... Verisign is a pain but that one cool feature is fun.

Eat One Meal Per Day?

MealI had an employee, for about three weeks, that only ate one meal per day.

He came to work, drank only water and left without eating a bite of food. He said that is what he did his whole life. Yes, he was skinny. Very skinny. But he only had a dinner and that was it all day.

I wonder what metabolism that guy had?

Tonight, I eat a nice meal at Smokey Joes with the guys in the community.

Looking forward to a nice large hamburger.

Introducing RustyBudget: Author Management Web Software

rustybudget-logo.pngI like to introduce new software we built here at RustyBrick. It is called RustyBudget, in short it allows bloggers and authors to easily manage the stories they want to write about at their blogs or publishing sites.

Duncan Riley did an excellent write up on it.

RustyBudget is essentially “a writers or editors budget”, where a blog owner and blog writers can manage story leads, including author allocation, story notes and overall task management.

Why did I build it? Because I spend a ton of time blogging and managing the topics that should be covered at the blogs I write at. As many of you know, I write at both the Search Engine Roundtable and Search Engine Land. Both blogs are extremely active in terms of traffic and the number of posts we write each day. On both blogs, I help manage what topics we cover and what we don't cover. We manage which authors writes what and what stories they should bring in with it. As you can imagine, the larger the blog, the more authors the more topics, the more confusing things may get.

This software helps organize these tasks and also helps the task more efficient. And efficiency is something I am all about. So initially we built something internally, and then built it out to make it for anyone.

Some people don't like the colors, which is not a big deal, because you can customize the look and we are planning on adding an API. But the bottom line is, that without this tool, I would be spending a heck of a lot more time managing the blogs as opposed to writing at the blogs.

I made a quick intro video on how it works:

For additional demos, go here.

It is free for anyone to use. We only charge if you invite three authors or more to collaborate with you. And then it only costs $4/user/month.

Please let me know your thoughts. We can add features as you see fit.

Well, I remember back at one of the concerts I went to, probably in 2000. She opened up for one of my favorite artists, Neil Young. She completely rocked the place.

Since then, I have enjoyed listening to her music. She gives a new meaning to Grunge.

She was born in Kennett, Missouri. She then graduated from University of Missouri with a degree in Education. She then got a job as a music teacher in a elementary school at Kellison in Fenton, Missouri. And look at her now.

Pretty cool.

Quick Way to Delete Email on Your iPhone

I know I have been posting a lot about the iPhone, but I am still amazed by it. Anyway, today, I accidently found a new way to delete email while using your iPhone's mail program.

When you are in your list view, displaying your emails... You simply glide your finger from left to right over one email message. Up comes a delete button.

Here is a video demonstrating it:

This saves you a step or two.

Either you have to click on the email and then click the delete trash can button at the bottom of the email. Or you can click the "edit" button at the top right of the list view and then click the red circle icon on the left of the email and then click the delete button on the right of the email. So this is a third way to delete email.

Reuters Web Site Causing Processor Spike

Reuters_logo.pngFor some reason, whenever I go to Reuters.com, my processor spikes.

I asked Ronnie why. He said there is a piece of code on the site that is running in some type of loop.

Don't you think this would have been fixed by now. It has been happening to my Safari browser for well over a week.

Try it on any article, here is an example. You may notice that your computer begins to lag while this page is open in Safari and Firefox. I am not sure about Internet Explorer.

Alarm Waking Me Up This Week

Alarm ClockTypically, I am the type of guy that wakes up minutes before the alarm goes off.

But this week, I did not once wake up before the alarm went off.

I am getting a bit concerned.

What is different from this week as compared to last week? It is not like it is darker in the morning. It is also not like we had a time change. I didn't do any traveling. Haven't really been staying up any later.

What is going on?! :)

Hospital Bills Patient $49 Million

#$#Ariz. hospital sends patient a $49M bill from Seattle PI reports that a hospital sent out the wrong bill to 587 patients who were treated at Northern Cochise Community Hospital in Willcox.

One patient received a bill for $49 million, while many received bills for over $100,000.

"The highest statement is $49 million," Aguirre said. "I can't wait to hear from that person."

How did this happen? They installed new computer software to manage their billing, which caused a glitch with the invoicing.

This should all be resolved within 10 business day.

My iPhone Bookmarks

iphone-bookmarks.pngBookmarks are critical when it comes to using your iPhone. :)

I have set up iTunes to sync my Safari bookmarks with my iPhone. Right away, I set up a folder named "i" as the first folder within my Bookmarks Bar. Then I began adding bookmarks within that folder both on my iPhone and while I am surfing on my Mac.

These are the bookmarks I have come up with so far.

I subscribe to a few blogs where I find these new iPhone Safari web applications. Two that I like are iPhone Application List and My iTablet. But there are some good static links at BarCamp / iPhoneDevCampApps.

Have any to share?

Blogging for a Decade?

Happy Blogiversary from the Wall Street Journal reports that blogging is now ten years old. Hmm... Ten years old.

We are approaching a decade since the first blogger -- regarded by many to be Jorn Barger -- began his business of hunting and gathering links to items that tickled his fancy, to which he appended some of his own commentary. On Dec. 23, 1997, on his site, Robot Wisdom, Mr. Barger wrote: "I decided to start my own webpage logging the best stuff I find as I surf, on a daily basis," and the Oxford English Dictionary regards this as the primordial root of the word "weblog."

The dating of the 10th anniversary of blogs, and the ascription of primacy to the first blogger, are imperfect exercises. Others, such as David Winer, who blogged with Scripting News, and Cameron Barrett, who started CamWorld, were alongside the polemical Mr. Barger in the advance guard. And before them there were "proto-blogs," embryonic indications of the online profusion that was to follow. But by widespread consensus, 1997 is a reasonable point at which to mark the emergence of the blog as a distinct life-form.

Video from Cory Doctorow and David Pescovitz of BoingBoing.net:

Ten years.

Happy Stats on iPhone

iphoneiPhone buyers have no regrets from USA Today reports on a survey by market researcher Interpret of Santa Monica, Calif. The survey surveyed 1,000 cellphone users between July 6-10th. It found good things about Apple's new iPhone.

  • 90% of 200 owners said they were "extremely" or "very" satisfied with their phone
  • 85% said they are "extremely" or "very" likely to recommend the device to others
  • Three of 10 buyers were first-time Apple customers.
  • For 40%, iPhone is their first iPod.
  • Half the buyers switched from another carrier.
  • Of those, 35% paid an average $167 to break a contract.
  • IPhone owners surveyed expect to pay about $35 more in monthly service fees compared with their previous cellphones.

Very interesting statistics. I personally am a fan of my iPhone. I am already typing with two thumbs after a day. Also, I am typing with one thumb while driving (don't tell anyone).

Here is a picture of my iPhone on my desk, near my Apple MacBook Pro.

Annoying Interference on iPhone from External Speakers

iPhone StaticI use to have this problem with my original Treo 650. When I got my Treo 700, the problem went away.

For some reason, the iPhone causes interference with my external speakers. Now, I am not even connecting the iPhone to the speakers. The interference is random sometimes and is also triggered by when I get a phone call or text message or when I sync with my Mac.

I am far from the only one who is experiencing this interference. There is a large thread at Mac Rumors on this topic. Also, MacWorld covered the issue.

The image at the top right is an setting you can configure when you hook up your iPhone to speakers. Note, I do not get this option, because I am not hooking up my speakers to the iPhone. It just causes crackling and popping noises that come out of my speakers. Turning off the speakers don't help. I can turn on the airplane mode feature, but then I won't get calls, text messages, emails and web.

One person said, you will just get used to it...

blackberries do this all the time. After a while you just get used to the sound

I try to put my phone a good distance from my speakers, which helps a lot.

Why Do People Type in CAPS?

all-caps-comments.pngYou guys know what I mean. If you get an email all in CAPS, then you know it was written by a novice. If you get a blog comment written in all CAPS, you know it was written by a novice or written to show some form of expression.

I just never get the reasoning behind the all caps writing style.

Is it that some people just have their caps locks key stuck? Is it that some people think you are more likely to read their email if it is all in caps? Is it because people like the style of all caps? What is it?

Disgruntled Dunkin Donuts Customer Mad About Kosher

Dunkin Donuts KosherThe other day, I went to the new Kosher Dunkin Donuts by my office.

This woman comes in and orders a muffin. She then immediately asks for a manager. The person behind the counter got nervous. He asked, "was there something I did?" She said no, not you.

The manager comes out and she explains in very angry tone that there are other people who come to Dunkin and like non-kosher items. She explained she was very upset that she can no longer order a sausage sandwich from this specific Dunkin. She goes off complaining that it isn't right that they changed it to kosher.

Meanwhile, I am standing there with my Kippa (thing on my head that shows I am Jewish). The manager explains that it wasn't necessarily a kosher thing. They made a management decision based on profits to stop selling all meats. They said, on average, they sold ten to fifteen meat sandwiches per day. It was not enough volume to cover the costs involved in buying the meats. So they stopped selling meat items, which then made it possible for them to easily make the place kosher.

She then paid for her muffin and stormed out yelling. She was yelling that there are other people in this world besides "for them."

Now, I don't think she is anti-semtic or anything. At least I hope not. I think she is just upset she can't get her sausage sandwich at Dunkin anymore. Honestly, I felt bad and upset overall the whole episode.

As soon as she left, everyone behind the counter began laughing.

Just a shame.

Need Advice on iPhone & Verizon

rateplans_attlogo20070626.pngI think I may have figured out a way to get the best of both worlds.

vzw_v740.jpgCurrently, I have a data and voice with Verizon Wireless. If I removed the voice service from my plan but kept the data plan, I can then get an iPhone. Work with me on this...

My voice and data plan with Verizon cost me about $120+ per month. The data plan is $60 from Verizon. If I just use the data plan, buy myself a Verizon Wireless V740 ExpressCard for my laptop and drop the voice plan. That will save me about $60 per month. Now, I can add iPhone/AT&T's cheapest plan of 450 minutes - which is plenty for me and I am back at $120 per month.

The major draw back is that my cell phone number would change. Because I would have to keep my current plan, i.e. my current number, with Verizon not to be charged the early termination fee. But then again, it doesn't bother me if I have to get a new number. So people who haven't called me in a while, they won't know how to reach me. Not a big deal, seriously.

Thoughts?

Kvatter at Brit Milah בְרִית מִילָה

Brit MilahThis morning, a friend of mine had a Brit Milah בְרִית מִילָה for his new son.

They honored my wife and I with the "kovod" (honor) of being the Kvatter.

What is a Brit Milah or Bris? Basically a circumcision, but with a religious ceremony around it. It is kind of funny watching a bris. All the woman are standing, smiling, eagerly awaiting the snip snip from the circumcision. And all the men are standing with their heads down, with a grimacing expression. The the Mohel, the person who performs the circumcision, does the snip (hopefully once) and you hear the baby cry.

The Kvatter are those that carry the baby from the mother to the mohel and then back from the mohel to the mother. My wife took the baby from the mother, handed off the baby to me. I then sprinted (well, walked) down to the mohel and handed the baby off. They do the snip and then some blessings and then they hand the baby back to me. I then hand the baby to my wife, who hands the baby to the mother.

The Kvatter is typically given to a new married couple that does not have kids yet. It is in merit of the young couple to have kids of their own in the future. It was a very very nice honor to get.

Oh, that picture at the top right. It is some random picture from Flickr.

CallWave Added Voice to Text Message!

callwave text messageRemember, I said I was trying out CallWave? It is basically a service that overrides your cell phone provider's voicemail services and replaces it with theirs. They add more features and conveniences.

So I stuck with it.

The other day, I noticed I got a weird text message. It turned out that the text message was a new feature from CallWave that turns converts a voicemail to text. In the past, CallWave would text message me that I got a voicemail from person a, at this time and for this long. Now, they send that, plus they convert the voice message to a text message. I love it.

I can now see, immediately, what the message was all about, via a text message.

The example here, shows a message someone left me. Funny how they converted the word, "Kleenex" to "Clean Acts" - but I understood it.

I love the widget CallWave has also.

GrandCentral Invites Available

Personally, I am not going to use it much. But if you want an invite to use it, I have about 7 left. Just comment below, make sure you have your email address in the comment form and Ill hook you up.

Awesome Auto & Body Shop in Rockland New York

JeepRemember, I told you that I got hit by a cop? Well, here is the update on that story.

We spent the next few days getting quotes from various auto body shops. We found a reputable guy at a fair price to do the work. The cop mailed a check, as he said he would and I then hired the guy to fix the car.

Next, the auto body shop I hired was awesome. Get this. He not only gave us a great price. He drove to the car, looked at it, and gave us a quote on the phone. Then when I gave him the go ahead, he drove, picked up the car, fixed it, and drove it back the same day.

How is that for service!

I highly recommend this guy. The name of the shop is KRV Auto & Body. It is a fairly new shop. The number is 845-296-3677. Any car problems, give this guy a call.

Comparing ISPs Speed: Verizon FiOS, Optimum Online & Verizon Wireless Broadband

speedtest_graphic.pngThe other day, I wrote The Fastest Fiber is Comparable with the Fastest Cable & DSL where I showed tests that showed Optimum Online's internet to be almost as fast as Verizon's FiOS. I wanted to put that to the test.

First, I did a speed test using my Treo over the Verizon Wireless broadband network. Here are the results:

verizon-wireless-speed-test.png

Not bad.

Then I did a test of the Optimum Online cable network from my home. Here are the results:

optimum-online-speed-test.png

That is pretty quick.

Here is a test from the same provider, Optimum Online, in the morning, in my office. Here are the results:

optimum-online-speed-test2.png

Now, let's try the Verizon FiOS connection from a location in New Jersey.

verizon-fios-speed-test.png

That is blazing quick! Blazing!

My father's area just qualified for FiOS, he should jump at it. I am just waiting for my home and office area to qualify.

Update: Just after posting this, ARS Technica posted a review of Verizon's EVDO network.

PS3 Drops Price of 60GB Model

PS 3Tons of rumors all over the web that PlayStation would be dropping the price of the game system.

Well, now it is confirmed.

We confirmed today that we are lowering the price of our current 60GB PS3 by $100, to $499, effective immediately in North America.

And in a few weeks, a new PS3 is coming out priced at $599 that has a larger hard drive. The hard drive is 80GB and the PS3 comes with MotorStorm.

Yea, I got a PlayStation 3 a while back. I honestly do not use it as much as I should. I think it has been a few weeks since I last played. Just lots going on right now, I guess.

Meeting with Hanoch Teller Scored me Free Copy of "Comprehending The Imcomprehensible"

Comprehending The ImcomprehensibleYou know I was scheduled to have a meeting with Hanoch Teller about his web site.

First of all, Rabbi Hanoch Teller is a very nice man. So I just wanted to help him as best as I could.

I showed him all the problems with his site and explained to him what I would do if I was him. I spent a good hour plus with Rabbi Teller. We decided not to call Bryan Eisenberg even though he offered because at this stage, there is just so many basics that need to be cleaned up with the technology that I didn't feel it was necessary at this stage yet. But the offer was awesome and we hope to take advantage of it in the future.

Anyway... Rabbi Teller wanted to pay me for the time he was here. Of course, I would not accept money. So he decided to give me a free copy of his 11 CD set named Comprehending The Incomprehensible, which is the "history, heroism and lessons of the holocaust." Looking forward to listening to it, after I convert it into an MP3 file. :)

I have no time left, and I got to jet.

Just a nice experience meeting with Rabbi Teller. But it was even nicer being able to offer advice and help him.

A Programmers Fridge: Things That Grow in our Fridge

RustyBrick FridgeThere is a serious issue when you have an office filled with programmers and not any sales people.

What is the issue?

The office fridge.

No one cares if the fridge starts smelling bad. You let it go and go until the fridge is so full that you are forced to clean it out.

That is exactly what happened with the RustyBrick fridge.

We got a shipment of sodas today and began to try restocking the fridge. But the cans of soda would not fit. So we began removing the old items in the fridge. There was a milk container that had hard chunks of cheese growing inside of it. There were old chinese noodles growing fungus on it. There were old egg rolls, old sandwiches and all sorts of things. We threw pretty much everything out and started from scratch.

We also popped in a new Arm and Hammer box to hopefully stabilize the smell.

What an experience. :)

I Love BBQs

Yesterday, my inlaws flew in from STL and are staying by my sister-in-law and brother-in-law's home in NJ. So we drove there to celebrate July 4th.

My brother-in-law cooked up tons of meat on his BBQ. There must have been five full chickens, two dozen hamburgers, six or more steaks, and these huge hot dogs.

I personally ate two large pieces of white meat chicken, two burgers, and a few piece of the hot dogs. Great job - broinlaw! Oh, nice job cleaning up also.

Then the home made brownies came out - ouch!

Oh, there were salads and stuff like that - but it just took up space on the table. :)

Makes me hungry now thinking about it.

If you missed the Search Engine Roundtable's July Fourth theme, here is a screen cap:

I Am a "Notable SEO" According to Wikipedia

Wikipedia recently featured the SEO article on their home page.

Today, I was reviewing the SEO article and noticed I am listed in the history section, as a "notable SEO." Cool. :)

To reduce the impact of link schemes, as of 2007, search engines consider a wide range of undisclosed factors for their ranking algorithms. Google says it ranks sites using more than 200 different signals. [8] The three leading search engines, Google, Yahoo and Microsoft's Live Search, do not disclose the algorithms they use to rank pages. Notable SEOs, such as Rand Fishkin, Barry Schwartz, Aaron Wall and Jill Whalen, have studied different approaches to search engine optimization, and have published their opinions in online forums and blogs.[9][10] SEO practitioners may also study patents held by various search engines to gain insight into the algorithms.[11]

So, us "notable SEOs" names are hyperlinked to our Wiki pages. My empty'ish page is Barry Schwartz the "technologist."

Dunkin' Donuts Near my Office Kosher?

Dunkin Donuts KosherI have been hearing some buzz that the Dunkin' Donuts near my office is now kosher.

Supposedly, as of two weeks ago, they received some type of Kashrut certification.

Being a Fast day today, I can't keep my mind off of food.

Aren't all Dunkin's kosher? No, only some. The one in Teaneck, NJ is and I have eaten there a few times. I went to one in Chicago recently and for my first time had a egg and cheese from a Dunkin.

But if these rumors are true, a kosher Dunkin in my area - oh boy!

Update: Confirmed. The kashrut is provided by two places. The KOF K for the supplies (aka Donuts) and KOA for supervising the store. It looks legit to me.

Famous Jewish Book Author, Hanoch Teller, Visiting Me

Hanoch Teller Visiting MeThe phone rings and I pick up and this guy named Hanoch Teller introduces himself. I am thinking, is that the famous Hanoch Teller or some other guy?

He then describes that he has a web site at HanochTeller.com that gets virtually no traffic. I take a quick look and quickly see why.

To make a short story shorter, he is coming to meet with me Friday. He will be in America and can make it to my office this Friday. I feel bad, his site is in bad shape - very bad shape - hopefully we can help him out.

I do see that he has a Wikipedia entry, so that is nice... I told my wife that he is coming and she said, "Get out!!!!"

Here is a bio I found on the web - it may or may not be accurate:

Rabbi Hanoch Teller, renowned story-teller and modern-day maggid, has addressed audiences in 19 countries on five continents. A prolific writer, he is the author of 20 books, including the "Soul Stories" series. Rabbi Teller is also a highly respected instructor in numerous seminaries for women in Jerusalem, and the producer of the newly-released video, Do You Believe in Miracles? Rabbi Teller's talks present a thought-provoking contemporary view of issues relevant to every concerned Jew, featuring heart-warming personal observations on the human condition and Jewish life.

Blood Test Gone Wrong - On Fast Day

Two Attempts at Getting Blood

Today is a Jewish fast day, Tzom Tammuz, so I am fasting. I also had to schedule a blood test for around now, so I decided, heck do it on a fast day - since it is a fasting blood test.

I didn't realize I would have to give like ten things of blood. So I am a bit light headed. Deal is, I can't eat or drink until about 9:30 tonight. I have not ate or drank anything since 9ish last night.

Notice the picture above? Yea, two band aids. The first attempt on my left arm did not work. She missed the vein, and tried to jab that needle in the same vein about six times until we tried the next arm. The right arm worked and we were set to go.

Hungry.

House Hunting

Part of the Monsey Condo Selling also involves looking for a new home.

So Sunday, my wife and I went with our realtor to look at homes. We looked in a few different communities within the area we were looking and found one place we really like.

I actually wrote up a lot about the house and decided not to post it.

Bottom line... If I sold my condo today, I would most likely make an offer on this house.

But no sense in wishful thinking until I am in a real position to buy.

So why look now? I am told we need to get our house hunting feet wet.

Vampire-like Peacock Gets Mugged by Man

Man Beats Peacock He Says Was Vampire via the Washington Post reports that a man beat up a peacock because he thought it was a vampire.

Reportedly, the peacock walked into a parking lot neat Burger King. A man spotted it and thought it was a vampire, so he beat it, beat it so bad that all of its tail feathers fell out. In fact, the bird had to be euthanized after the beating.

Richard Gentles, a spokesman for the city's Center for Animal Care and Control said:

"It's just unbelievable that someone would do something to a poor, defenseless animal and do it in such a cruel fashion."

He seized the iridescent bird by the neck, hurled it to the ground and started kicking and stomping the creature, said worker Felicia Finnegan, 19. WOW.

Vampire vs. Peacock:

Hmmm....

Mission Accomplished: Kind Of

Remember, this Friday I posted My Condo For Sale in Monsey - Home For Sale?

There I said, I was hoping to achieve top rankings in Google for terms like [condo for sale in monsey], [monsey condo], [apartment for sale in monsey], [monsey home for sale] and so on.

Well, I checked Saturday night, and I am doing pretty well.

Notice the Flickr results are mine also, so I have three of the top four results for that search.

#2, not bad.

Will it last? I doubt it. Since this is fresh content, Google will give it some love for some time. Hopefully by then, I would have sold.

So step one, complete. I will send any leads to my agent.

Step two, is to sell.
