I remember the upside down grainy black and white image on the on Magnovox Television in the wee hours. It was heady stuff, these 60's NASA space shots.
When I woke up the next morning I pajama-played with lifelike plastic Saturn 5 rocket stages and LEM model toys, pretending to dock in the family room. It was a heady time. I remember the smell of my parents' smoke-they hadn't heard to quit yet. I was nine years old.
The Red Sox were in a 2 year decline after the exhilaration of the '67' series and the Yankees still sucked...no matter how good they actually were :). "One Small Step for Man" and one galaxy-expanding black and white media event for a little boy watching NBC. Thanks for shaking the cobwebs Barry
