First, watch this video of a B-52 flight test uploaded to YouTube about one year ago.
Yea, see that huge plane take a nose dive and crash?
That is the same model of a plane that accidently took nuclear warheads over North Dakota to Louisiana.
Air Force investigates mistaken transport of nuclear warheads from CNN reports that a B-52 bomber carried six nuclear warheads between Minot Air Force Base to Barksdale Air Force Base last Thursday. It was a total accident. It was not in accordance with Air Force rules.
Shepperd said the United States had agreed in a Cold War-era treaty not to fly nuclear weapons. "It appears that what happened was this treaty agreement was violated," he said.
Supposedly, the crew on that flight had no idea that this plane was carrying the warheads.
"Secretary [of Defense Robert] Gates was quickly informed of this incident ... and he has been receiving daily briefings from Gen. Buzz Moseley, the Air Force chief of staff, on actions that the Air Force is taking and the progress of their investigation," Morrell told reporters Wednesday."I can also tell you that it's important enough that President Bush was notified of it."
Ok, now back to the video at the top.
Feel safe? ;-)

Are you kidding me? That is not a full size B-52H. It is a working model airplane. Kinda not even close to the same thing. Working around real B-52Hs all day. I can tell you that the real thing takes up much more space on the runway. It is also much bigger than a man; not smaller. So if you feel unsafe because a model airplane crashed, controlled by a civilian, then you have bigger things to worry about than NUKES flying on a real B-52.
Back before the Wall came down, nuclear weapons were flow daily from SAC, Strategic Air Command, bases all over the world. With very few incidences. There are still nuclear warheads at a few bases, although till recently have not flown. You would be surprised at the number passing you on the highway, as you and your family are driving to see Aunt Sally.
These things have, and always, will be around. Accidents happen, policy changes are made, and we get on with our lives.
