So yesterday, I spent some time putting up shades in the house.
Since I spent a heck of a lot of money on the house, I thought we go cheap in certain areas, such as drapery and shades. I actually have a client with the domain Drape.com, not bad... Anyway...
I went with Redi Shades. They are paper shades and can easily be put up.
You can buy them at the Home Depot for about $4 or $5. I got two kinds, the original ones for the downstairs level and the room darkening version for the upstairs bedrooms.
You basically cut them to size with a razor blade and then peel of a stick and stick it to the top of your window. They hang from top down and you can clip them at the bottom to adjust the height.
The main issue is that I have tons of 6 inch, 12 inch, etc. pieces of blinds. Not sure if they can be used or what to even do with them.
Oh, they also make "arch" versions like this one:
Supposedly, you do not need the special arch version. All you need to do is cut the original version down the middle and it works the same way.

I've never heard of or seen Redi Shades before, Barry. They look like a great, inexpensive alternative to mini-blinds, though.
I'll have to keep these in mind when I buy a condo (which, hopefully, will be in the next month or two).

Hey, don't forget to give credit to where you first experienced the ease, beauty and, most importantly, cost-effectiveness of this solution!

AJ, you would be sad to learn where I first found that implementation.

Were it not my humble home, I would, in fact, be sad. Here i was thinking that I had, in some way, contributed to the cost-effective beautification of your new home...

Cheer up!
I have seen fancier versions in other homes but yours were 100% the cheapest I have seen. So I copied yours for the downstairs.

Ok, now I am a happy man!

I was wondering how well the adhesive works on the blinds. Are they still in place, since October?

Yes they are.

I sell Redi Shades...but I also put the vinyl room darkening in my business van. The adhesive on the shades are still holding up and are doing great even after a year. I park the van in the sun...so it gets really hot inside of the van...but the shades are doing great! They are the perfect solution till you finally get your ideal window treatment.

I have allergies and have used Redi Shades for over 4 years, have used the cordless and the ones with the cord. I like the cordless best. The are easy to cut and easy to hang.
On windows that get usage and because I live in the south, (Hot here) sometimes the tape at the top of the blinds gradually come loose, so I just take a small piece of duct tape and place on center and corners when I first put up, then it doesn't make any difference how hot it gets, it won't come loose.
They are wonderful temporary shades, gives your room a nice look from the outside and you can replace as often as the dust requires. I would never go back to using regular blinds after using Redi Shades. In addition, the price is very reasonable.
Try them, you will not be disappointed.
If you are wanting to truly darken your room, take a white garbage bag and tape it across your window (so it looks okay from the outside). Cover with Expensive Dark Green Garbage bags (they are darker than cheap) (hang long across, use tape if in apartment or use tacks if in your own place to secure them. Then so your room looks nice, hang your room darkening Redi Shade.
You room will be really dark. My husband said our bedroom is like a cave. LOL.
I love them!

I have windows in my condo that are longer than 72 inches... like 90 - Is there anyway to order longer Redi Shades? or can i glue them 2gether?

you can overlap them to make them longer or wider.
