For the past week or so, my right wrist has been killing me. Certain movements result in sharp pain. It first started hurting after waking up one morning in a lot of pain. I figured I slept on my hand and bent it badly and that I would feel better the next day.
I did not feel better, but I gave it a few more days. Now over a week later, it still hurts.
It hurts a heck of a lot more when I shoot a basketball, which I have been doing three times a week.
It even hurts when I type, but not as bad (or even close to as bad) as when I carry stuff or shoot a basketball.
My wife felt it might be Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, so just now, I decided to read WebMD on the topic:
What Are the Symptoms of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome?Usually, people with carpal tunnel syndrome first notice that their fingers "fall asleep" and become numb at night. They often wake up with numbness and tingling in their hands. The feeling of burning pain and numbness may generally run up the center of the person's forearm, sometimes as far as the shoulder. As carpal tunnel syndrome becomes more severe, symptoms are noticed during the day.
My fingers are not falling asleep. Did you see how much I wrote over the past week? My wrist just hurts.
So I have self-diagnosed myself. I will not go to a doctor, I will just wait it out a couple more weeks and see how it goes.
I just saved twenty bucks on a co-pay!

Sorry to tell you but it does not sound like a wise thing to me. From my experience, go to the doctor first thing in the morning, each day may count and if you are not doctor, don't give yourself a diagnostic. I know I have been there and self-diagnostics was not good a t all. Just my opinion.

It's almost certainly RSI. I used to get it when I was studying music (playing guitar 8+ hours a day will do that to you :p)
Get a good wrist support, make sure you sit properly and comfortably when you type, without hunching your shoulders, and all that jazz.

Remember when I was telling you I just experienced those symptoms, while we were at SMX SM? I couldn't move my wrist without serious pain for at least 3 weeks, but I've been through this before (going to Dr. to see if Carpal Tunnel...it never was.) It was RPS and the body is saying it needs a wrest in that area.
I use wrist rests for my office desktop and didn't need an assist with my older, larger laptop. My new laptop, 13", was what got me this last time. My wrist kept hitting the corner of it, causing soft tissue damage. I wore a wrist wrap for a week and uses pillows to support my wrist until it healed.
Now, I keep an eye on where it lands, so I don't hurt it again :) You do need to give the wrist lots of downtime, so it will heal.

Computer professionals most of the time spend their time in front of computer and work with their fingers and thumbs for longer hours.
Working for longer hours overuses median nerve which is running from the forearm to the palm.
Median nerve passes through a narrow passageway of ligament and bones at the base of the hand.
This nerve controls the impulses to the muscles, sensations and movement to the palm side of the thumb and fingers.
Diabetes is also cause of carpal tunnel syndrome. Diabetes causes loss of sensation in the feet usually accompanied by burning type of pain. This condition is more prone to develop the syndrome.
