Last night, I came home, hoping to eat something, shower and go into bed with my laptop - since I am a bit under the weather. But when I got home, the Internet wasn't working. My first Verizon FiOS internet outage!!!
So I did the normal things. Reset the router, since the Verizon router didn't show an Internet green light, I assumed it was at least at that point. Restarting didn't work. So I looked at the FiOS box, it looks something like the image at the top right of this post, but mine is a bit different. I had green lights for power and backup, but the next light was red and read "FAIL."
So I called Verizon support and to make a long story (which was fairly short), short. They said they would send someone out to me. That person came at about 11:45am today. I met him at the house, showed him the box and he did a few things. He then determined it was with the wiring. He went outside (my FiOS box is mounted inside) and followed the FiOS cables to the junction box on the telephone poll. He messed around with that box and then I saw the lights all turn green on the FiOS box.
I tested the Internet on my iPhone and we were a go.
That was my first outage.

I am in the middle of my second Verizon FIOS Internet outage in six weeks. Repeated calls for help this time have yielded promises with ever changing deadlines for action, but 48 hours later, no restoration of service.
Beware that FIOS support is hard to get to, slow and probably badly overextended.
