As you know, I was thinking about getting a new hard drive to house my raw search recap videos. So I swung by Best Buy and bought a Western Digital My Passport Essential 320GB External USB 2.0 Portable Hard Drive in the Intense Blue color. Why? cause it was on sale and I had a $150 Best Buy gift card.
What I hate is the box it comes in. The thing is wrapped in this hard clear plastic. You need a mini chain saw to cut it open and get the hard drive out. I have a sharp razor blade, which did the trick. But I had to be careful not to cut myself on the razor and even on this hard plastic. Here is a picture:
So, tell me, why do they come packaged like this? Just to annoy customers or for protection and style?

I really, really hate that kind of packaging, too. But, I think the main reason for those impossible to remove plastic cases is to cut down on shoplifting. If you can't get the thing out of the plastic, it's harder to steal without getting caught, since the little security magnetic that sets off the alarms is usually inside the plastic.
