I am mad about being efficient. Mad about it.
I was telling someone that I am not sure if I can become more efficient then I am now. Honestly, I am sure there are ways I can be more efficient. But I didn't say that. I gave her an example of how crazy I am about efficiency. Let me share this example with you, even though, you may think I am nuts.
You know the light switches that have two switches or more on the same switch cover? There is an example of what I am talking about in the picture above. Well, I am so crazy about being efficient that I have to have the dual switches that I use daily in the same position. Either all up or all down.
Why is this? It has nothing to do with being OCD and must having it look a certain way. It is about being able to efficiently turn on or off the lights. I don't want to waste the time of having to turn one switch up and the other one down, to achieve my goal. (Note, these lights are controlled by two different areas, so being up or down might mean on or off, depending on the other switch.) I want to be able to quickly swipe my hand either upwards or downwards to be able to achieve that goal in a single motion, as opposed to two motions.
Crazy, I know. But when this person asked if I was OCD, she asked me, "You don't turn flip the switch three times and spin around in a circle, do you?" I said no. I just flip the switches on or off and go on with my business.
It is a good thing I have a good wife who agrees to put up with those things. :)
Update: Let me be clear. I don't care if the switches are in the same position. I just care that I can turn them on or off with one motion.

Barry - Ugh ... a little OCD? :) You need a few of the goodies available from my pal Peter and crew (then you don't have to worry about it). NOT link bait ... just true? http://www.energycircle.com .... enjoy :)

It is ok to be efficient. Efficiency is what will get people through a down economy.

When two switches are oriented opposite each other and they both need to be flipped, if you use a twisting motion with your hand you can flip them simultaneously. It's sick that I am saying this, I know. In my case, I've killed too many neurons via multiple gestations to be a good multi-tasker any more. If I don't cut the corners I still can, we'd all be standing around, truant, unfed and unwashed amidst piles of laundry with no food in the fridge. Actually, that kind of sounds like last Wednesday.
