mydadsageekpinknewSince I am already a dad for over 5 days now, I feel like I have the experience and wisdom to now give new dads advice. Since I would classify myself as a geek, cause I earn geek points with the wife, I geek travel, I got geek pants, I have an LED license plate, I only buy shirts with pockets for my phone, amongst other things, I figured I share some of my advice.

  • Sleep as much as you can prior, during and after delivery. The nurses tell you this, but you are too wired and excited or nervous to actually do it. But do it.
  • Make sure your wife does the same, it is even more important for her.
  • Take many pictures and sync them up to your mobile device, this way you have them when every other person asks you for a picture.
  • Bring a laptop and make sure your hospital has wifi (or bring wireless with you
  • Don't Twitter or blog the delivery if your wife doesn't want it
  • Put away all computers and phones when the time is right (probably when contractions get heavy).
  • Don't take them out until you get an approval from your wife
  • First use them only for baby purposes (i.e. pictures, calling family, etc.)
  • Practice holding baby like object (dolls maybe at first) and using computer and mobile devices (comes in handy later)

I am sure there are more tips, but since I am only 5 days into this, I am a bit exhausted, which makes it hard to think - plus I am only 5 days into this!

I would like to thank everyone for all the wonderful comments via the blog, email, IM, phone, Twitter, and even snail mail. For those that sent flowers, cards, baskets and gifts - thank you so much.

It was not necessary but it shows my wife that being a geek is not only part of my job but shows there is a community of geeks out there that care about you.

Isn't that onesie incredibly cute? Oh, that is not a hint to buy it for me - trust me. I am not sure if my wife would want 20 "My Dad's a Geek" Onesies.
