Last night, I attempted to add TV hookups to a couple rooms in my house. I went to Home Depot, not the new Lowes (in my area), and I bought the materials. I researched everything online and was all ready to go.
I head up to the attic and start scoping things out. What I find are dozens and dozens of wires. About 4 different wires all look to be the same RJ6 wire type. I am not sure if I can split that cable without it impacting other devices (i.e. alarm or phone).
I then decide to see if I can locate where I would drop down the wires. I see some holes from the ceiling, with wires piped through to rooms. Thing is, I don't see the same holes in the area I would need to pipe through my wires.
I search around more, keep in mind, it feels like it is 100 degrees in the attic. After about 30 - 45 minutes, I decide it is best to hire a professional. I close everything up, without making any holes in any walls and head back into the house.
This morning, I called Verizon to do the hookup for me. I actually wish I could have done it. I know I can do the cable cutting, crimping, etc, but I am not confident I can figure out which cables to splice and where exactly to drop it without causing issues that I cannot reverse.
I failed. :-(

Well, at least you didn't pull off your floorboards in 2 rooms so you could run CAT5 behind it to make a wired computer network, just to realize that you could just make a WAN...leaving you to replace floorboards like a uh..friend of mine did...

You're not a failure, just not trained in this area. I am just happy I don't have holes in the walls or ceiling!!

I look around my house and all I see are wires. Everything is plugged into something. Imagine there's no wires...
