I called my sister last night to ask her a questions about Costco. She didn't answer her home phone, so I decided to send her a text message. I gave her about two hours to reply, but she did not. So I called her at home again and she answered.
When I questioned her as to why she didn't answer her cell. She said that at night, she keeps her cell phone in the kitchen. In the kitchen. I found that to be a bit weird.
I personally keep my cell phone on, all night, charging, near my bed (on my iHome). Even before my iHome, I have always left my cell phone on my dresser near my bed. The only time I turn it off is on Shabbos and Jewish Holidays (simply cause if I get a call, I will freak out the whole time and not be able to do anything about it anyway).
My sister is about ten years older than me. I was thinking, maybe she doesn't put her cell phone near her bed because she is still tied to the landline and the old way of talking on the phone. I believe she did just get into texting, a couple months ago. But I would be surprised if other people her age don't put their cell phone near their dressers.

I leave my phone on and near my bed, but this is mostly because I use it as my alarm clock. If I didn't have to leave it on for the alarm feature, I would turn it off when I went to sleep, because I don't really want to have people calling me while I'm trying to sleep.
Then again, I don't have a land line, so maybe I should leave it on, in case there is an emergency late at night.

Actually, most cellphones don't require you to leave them on for the alarm function. Are you sure you've tried it out?

I put "On, not by my bed" because, while it IS in the bedroom, it is on my computer desk, out of reach from the bed.
Reasons for this:
1) I now use my cell phone (myTouch 3G) as my alarm clock and decided not to rely on snooze anymore, and that it's better to have to get out of bed as soon as the alarm goes off.
2) It does not matter if it is within reach or not because most places in my apartment get ZERO signal (and this is the same with Sprint, Verizon, and T-Mobile) so I wouldn't be able to use it anyway.

always by my bed
and always in arms reach
feel naked without having it next to me or on me at all times

On but by the front door next to my keys. Otherwise I'd leave without it in the morning :)

I leave it on, but in my office. This way, I tell clients they can call 24/7. If I'm awake, I'll get it. If I'm asleep, it won't bother me.
For family/emergencies/etc, they can call the house phone.

I also use the iPhone as an alarm clock. I have different wake-up times for weekdays & weekends.

I charge my Blackberry in my home office at night and have it set to turn off automatically at 2am and turn back on at 6am. However, I have a house phone so I'm not that worried about getting calls between 2 and 6 on my cell. If it's an emergency they can call the house.
However, having a land line probably makes a big difference in whether or not your readers keep their phone by their bed or not. Maybe include that in the poll also? Until this past year I had gone nearly 5 years without a land line and relied solely on my cell phone. My cell charging and storage habits changed after I started using a land line again.

I use my iPhone as an alarm clock every morning and so I leave it by my bed and turned on every night. I do however turn it onto to "Airplane" mode every night. 1, to stop me being woken up in the night and ruining my precious sleep, and 2, just incase the scientists are right and the signals do damage your brain.
