Half Speaking At BlueGlass TPA on September 26th

blueglass-tpa.jpegWant to see me half speak at a conference? My half speaking is much better than my full speaking. Meaning, no presentation, just off the cuff type of stuff.

BlueGlass always runs a nice and warm event - not just because many are located in warm climats but because it is run like a family.

Anyway, I be on an SEO clinic panel with Greg Boser, Rae Hoffman-Dolan, and Lindsay Wassell pretty much mocking your sites. I hope to mock your site - I like mocking things, although I am not sure I liked to be mocked myself... :-/

It is session #4 on day one on the agenda and make sure you register.

I hope to also provide some coverage of the show in some format while there at the Search Engine Roundtable.

Ready For Clean Up After Irene: Rockland County

O&R Trucks Ready For Clean Up - Rockland County - Irene

I took this picture about 1pm EDT after leaving my office yesterday, Sunday, after the Hurricane (Irene) was just about over.

As you might be able to see, there is a line of about 15 trucks Airmont Road.

It was a bit funny, because towards the end of the line, the crew were taking pictures of the trucks and each other. I guess to remember the day they cleaned up after one of the most talked about hurricanes to hit the area in a long, long time.

Thankfully, I did not lose power, did not flood and did not have any major damage to either my house or office. I got lucky.

There are currently over 100,000 people in my area without power, which is nothing compared to those near the coast.

Are You A Hardware Geek Or Software Geek

Jeff BezosPrior to my "off the cuff" YouTube Live Google + hangout interview with Michael Mozart - they were asking me about who'd I like to be in a Google + Hangout with.

They first suggested celebs like Madonna or Britney Spears. I wasn't interested.

They asked, who would I like to do a Google Hangout with.

I told them I am more into geek topics.

So then they just started naming geeks. Such as Chris Pirillo and I said, sure - he is geeky enough.

But that got me thinking...

There is a difference to me between a hardware geek and software geek.

Yea, often they overlap but there is a difference. Some love talking about the hardware, the processing power, the quality of the make up of the hardware, how it looks, how fast it is, how quiet it is and so on. But some like to talk about how it works, the user interface, the way it returns quality results and the efficiency of the software itself.

I guess that is the difference between software and hardware computer engineers.

Having said that, I'd personally prefer to do a Hangout with a software engineer over a hardware engineer.

How about you? Let me guess, Madonna. :)

New York Earthquake & All I Wanted To Do Was Checkin

Evacuation

So as many of you know, there was a bit of a tremor going on in New York because of the Earthquake in the DC/Virginia area yesterday around this time.

Half the people I asked in my area didn't feel a thing and half did.

I am on the 3rd floor of a building in Suffern, New York.

I was talking to my brother and he was standing by my door and the door started to move back and forth. Then we felt the building kind of shift from left to right. At first, I thought the A/C really started to pick up but then I looked at Twitter.

Really, no one in the office here knew what to make of it at first. People felt they maybe were dizzy or light headed. We don't know what earthquakes feel like.

But when I looked at Twitter, I kept seeing "earthquake in X". I saw people noting quakes in NY, Bostin, Virginia, DC, Cleveland, even Montreal!

So by then, I yelled out to the office it was a real earthquake. No one left, we just kept on working and talking about it.

My friends and colleagues from California were mocking me, like I mock them when they close school for a half of an inch of snow there. In fact, since then, there were two quakes slightly less than what Virginia had in the Cali area. No complaints from them:

How did you handle it? Did you cry? You can be honest. Did you cry? The thing I really wanted to do was checkin to being at an earthquake on Foursquare. I tweeted it and it seems like hundreds of others liked the idea.
